Afromystic is the first feature documentary about the LGBTQ+ deities, stories, and present-day practitioners of Yorùbá spirituality, honoring the existence of LGBTQ+ people since the beginning of time.Too often, LGBTQ+ community stories are told in opposition to the Judeo-Christian religious community. This documentary flips this script, following Queer, Gender Non-Conforming, and Transgender Yorùbá practitioners and priests/esses of African descent whose gender and sexuality are uplifted and celebrated in this Indigenous religion. Afromystic’s creative content is original and subversive, making space for expansive gender expression and radical LGBTQ+ imagination while affirming LGBTQ+ legacies throughout Yorùbá history, present, and future.
